Pursuing a great dream by involving design engineers, suppliers and customers

  • H.K.
  • He joined the company in 2006. He relaxes best by playing with his two-year-old son on his days off. Together with his son, he is now absorbed like a train buff in the toy train set, Plarail. His desire is to keep watching over his son's healthy growth and to live a happy life with his family.

Current Job

Working on a purchasing team to create systems to mass produce new products

When I was job hunting I mainly visited IT venture companies, but in the end I was attracted to "manufacturing and selling" companies, which are the bedrock of the economy. I found the ideal spirit of enterprise at SMK and decided to enter the company. Since joining the company I have worked in the Production Control Section exclusively. For the first five years, I was in charge of mass production. Since my sixth year I have been responsible for preparing production lines for new products. I am now working with the purchasing team to realize stable production. We create trial products together with design engineers, prepare lines for mass production of new products, create production schedules, calculate and manage costs of materials and maintain strict quality control. We have to create systems for the best production. We have to reduce costs wherever possible. Quality must not be compromised. We can never miss a deadline, even by one day. By shouldering such pressure, we contribute to the company's profits and safeguard its reputation.

Job Satisfaction

My greatest pleasure is seeing a product become a best-seller.

When a product becomes a best-seller after all the hard work of coordinating with related divisions to create a production line to manufacture a product with strict requirements, I feel satisfaction. Once, with the involvement of many people, we spent nearly a year preparing a production line. We then started mass production of a remote controller. Over 16 million units sold in about two years. It was a spectacular achievement in the history of SMK. The revenue and profits were huge. It was an unforgettable project for me. The remote controller is still in production and it may be possible to sell over 20 million units if we receive orders for the next model. I hope we do. It will be a milestone. Optimization of quality, cost and delivery (QCD), which we are responsible for, directly influences the company's profits. Therefore, we are always trying to reduce costs and paying attention to currency fluctuations. It is demanding work to pursue profit by these painstaking means, but I know the results have supported SMK, so I will redouble my efforts.

Challenges and Dreams

To make the SMK standard the global standard

My future goal is to make SMK the global standard by creating a product which the world has never seen. I believe IoT (Internet of Things), which has rapidly spread technological innovation and practical applications, has huge possibilities. An interesting idea might come up for a remote controller, for example, if we think about it within the framework of IoT. SMK's unique technological knowhow could be fully utilized to develop a connector with a radio module unit, for example, which could be indispensable for IoT. Many other unique approaches could be found to improve usability and design. Most importantly, SMK's reach is global, so it is possible to release a successful product in other markets quickly and make the product the global standard. I would like to lead a project involving design engineers, suppliers and customers that makes bigger dreams come true.
