Current Job

Development, operation and maintenance of in-house systems

My major at university was computer science. When I was job hunting I visited all sorts of companies irrespective of industry or occupational category. Finally I narrowed down my choice based on the impressions I got from the personnel officers and employees I met, and whether I was able to envision my work and growth at the company. I decided to join SMK because at SMK all in-house systems are created internally, not by outsourcing. This was attractive to me. Since entering the company, I have been in charge of development, operation and maintenance of the in-house systems exclusively. I am operating and maintaining the data warehouse system. The system has accumulated data related to sales and production for the entire group and is used by employees. At the same time I am also building "the cost of goods management system" that will be used for deciding product prices. This is an approach to create a task database, information that used to be handled on paper, in order to make production and sales radically more efficient.

Job Satisfaction

Completing a project using my ideas, logic and creativity gives me great satisfaction

Since in-house systems are configured internally at SMK, I am involved in all processes from defining requirements, to basic design, to detailed design, to programming. Once a system is completed, I am in charge of system support. Basically one system engineer is in charge of one project development theme, so it is gratifying that I can complete a project using my ideas, logic and creativity. On the other hand, because I am responsible for all aspects of the systems I have developed, I feel pressure. Even so, the fact that I am supporting the company gives me great satisfaction. For example, when the accounting system was replaced, I decided on a format for buying and selling data, developed it and realized stable system operation. My work was evaluated by the company and they said they were happy with the system. This gave me a great sense of accomplishment.

Challenges and Dreams

Becoming a leader who can create proactive IT strategies by introducing state-of-the art technologies such as AI

Our current in-house systems are a mix of both of new and old technologies. The systems run smoothly, but I personally would like to optimize these systems using state-of the art technologies and development methods. However, I don't yet have the experience or the skills for that. My immediate goal is therefore to deepen my knowledge and thoroughly polish my IT skills. Then I might be in a position to interview on-site staff to identify problems and the things needing improvement with the aim of conducting radical system reorganization. I believe that IT will further strengthen SMK business. My dream is to become a leader of SMK's IT strategy by introducing state-of-the art technologies such as AI in the future.
