Sales / Product Marketing & Sales Sec., Sales Coordination Dept., TP Division

My job is to act as a bridge between Japan and other Asian countries for our technology. In the future I would like to work on the business front lines in my homeland, China.

  • X.W.
  • He joined the company in 2012. His hobby is soccer and his greatest pleasure is playing with his beloved 5-year-old daughter on his days off. He would like to gain a deeper understanding of the many facets of Japanese culture. His dream is to contribute to the expansion of SMK's business in China, his homeland.

Current Job

Promotion and sales of onboard touch panels.

I studied theoretical physics at a university in China. After graduating, I entered a Japanese IT company where I was mainly in charge of the development of firmware and later I was an FAE for a Taiwanese liquid crystal manufacturer. I joined SMK because I believed I could be a bridge between Japan and other Asian countries including China in the area of technology. At SMK I am in charge of sales promotion for onboard touch panels targeting China and Korea. With the aim of winning new orders, I have promoted SMK's products and provided technical support in these countries in the local languages. When I receive an inquiry from a customer, I first submit an estimate based on the required specifications and negotiate with the customer. Once an order is received, our task flow includes production of a prototype, presentation of the prototype as a sample, product improvement based on continuous customer evaluation and feedback, and finally mass production. Of course, I always have to compete with our competitors while conducting sales activities.

Job Satisfaction

Finalizing a Win-Win contract gives me the greatest pleasure.

SMK's strengths are its flexible design capability, superior quality and stable production. Together with distributors we plan sales strategies that showcase these strengths in order to increase SMK's sales and market share. Regarding touch panels we are currently expanding market share with a broad lineup that includes touch panels with a capacitive sensing system or an optical system as well as those with the traditional resistive film system. SMK has proprietary technologies. In particular, its products for high-end luxury vehicles are highly evaluated by customers and we have steadily received orders. I feel satisfied when I coordinate a project with our partners in China or Korea and Japan. When differences in language and culture are overcome and a Win-Win contract which satisfies both parties is settled, I feel true pleasure.

Challenges and Dreams

How to become No.1 in sales in China

There was a customer who used a touch panel provided by a competitor for a particular vehicle family. This competitor had a cost advantage. We tried to get the customer to switch to SMK's touch panel and negotiated by presenting SMK's advantages, its technology and quality. We succeeded in winning an order from this customer. This is just one example. I would like to improve SMK's presence in China and Korea by appealing to these SMK's advantages. My dream is to increase SMK touch panel's sales in the region I am in charge of to a level that equals or even exceeds the current market size there. In order to achieve this goal, I will improve my knowledge not only about touch panels but other products including connectors and remote controllers so that I can make comprehensive proposals to customers. My career goal is to work on the business front lines in China by strengthening partnerships with local distributors and technical centers, while investing resources and leading strategies there.
